Heat-pressed fabric, metal fastener

I sort of fell into the making of this piece by accident. What started as an exercise in allowing myself to have fun – to play – turned into a site-specific installation.

This isn’t usually how I work. Most of the time I have a concept I’m chewing on, sometimes even a fully fleshed-out idea that I intend to create. More often than not my work doesn’t end up conforming to that original idea, but it typically starts somewhere.

This began as a series of abstract paintings, layered and heat-pressed onto fabric that a friend gave me to play with. I had never used a heat press machine before, so I was really just experimenting and having fun. I spun it into rope by hand.
