Thoughts to Think on Purpose

This piece isn’t exactly a sculpture. I’m considering recategorizing it as an artist’s book. Perhaps the body becomes the book.

After creating and performing the tape dispenser book, I was given an intriguing assignment: Recreate the work as not-art. This took some thinking and I discarded many ideas before deciding to teach a thoughtwork seminar to my class. I explained how our thoughts create our feelings, which lead to our actions and our results. Then I taught them how to brainstorm new thoughts, which would lead to different results. Later, in a conversation with my therapist, as we discussed some of the many thoughts I’m working on practicing, I mused that I wished I had a way of carrying these thoughts with me at all times, as reminders. They’re essentials. You know: phone, keys, wallet, practice thoughts. Thus, Thoughts to Think on Purpose was born. At the moment, I keep all these thoughts in a peppermint bark tin, which I take with me on days when I think a reminder would be helpful or when I feel like sharing them with friends.
